The Risk Window Is Wider Than the Match
The hours after a final whistle concentrate risk in predictable places: hospitality districts, restaurant rows, late-night rideshare zones, and bar exits. Crowds are larger, alcohol is involved, and decision-making is slower for everyone — fans, drivers, staff, and principals.
Restaurant and Bar Selection
Choose venues with managed reservations, real bouncers (not crowd controllers), interior or rear entrances available, and a pre-known relationship with the protective team. Avoid venues that are also broadcasting the match — they fill instantly after the final whistle and become difficult to leave.
Late-Night Transportation
Pre-arranged transportation is non-negotiable for principals after a match. Rideshare wait times stretch, and unfamiliar drivers in an unfamiliar city are the leading source of late-night incidents on any trip — World Cup or not. AMERINE protective drivers stage outside the bar before the principal moves to the door.
Intoxication-Driven Incidents
Most post-match incidents involve alcohol on at least one side. The principal does not need to be drinking for the risk to be present. Plan exits early, brief the protective team on the threshold for moving the principal, and avoid extending the night past the agreed plan.
Family and Staff Hand-Off
If part of the travel party returns to the hotel earlier than the principal, confirm the hand-off in advance: who escorts the spouse and children back, who confirms they are inside the room, and what the check-in cadence looks like for the rest of the night. The protective team should not assume.
